The public map
The map at sitedrive.ca needs no account and sets no cookie. Its layers are open data this site fetches from the City of Calgary and the City of Airdrie. "Near me" asks your browser for your position and uses it only to move the map. Your position never leaves your browser.
The map's background tiles load from CARTO or from OpenStreetMap, so those services see the usual request details (your address on the internet and the part of the map you are viewing).
Accounts
An account is a username and a password, stored as a salted hash. No email address and no real name are asked for. Signing in sets one session cookie, which keeps you signed in for up to 30 days or until you sign out.
Wardrive
Wardrive is a live map of your own drive. It works only while you choose to share your location from the Wardrive page. While you share it, your browser sends your position (and, when the browser gives them, its accuracy, heading and speed) every few seconds.
- Your points are kept for 48 hours, then deleted automatically.
- You can delete your whole trail at any time with "Forget my trail" on the Wardrive page.
- No other account and no signed-out visitor can see your points.
- The site's administrator can see every account's points, the same way the developer of any app can see its users' data. They are used only to run and improve this site and are never sold or shared.
What is not collected
No analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers. The server's ordinary request logs may hold your address on the internet for a short time.
Questions
To have an account removed, sign in, choose "Forget my trail", and stop using the account. Its points expire within 48 hours either way.
